About Black Rock

Black Rock Beach is situated at the northern end of Ka’anapali Beach, directly in front of the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa. Known traditionally as Pu’u Keka’a or ‘the rolling hill’, this 15-foot cliff formation was created by an ancient lava flow and holds deep cultural significance as a sacred place for native Hawaiians.

The beach offers exceptional snorkeling opportunities with clear waters and abundant marine life. Visitors can expect to see various Hawaiian reef fish, including convict tangs, puffer fish, goatfish, humuhumunukunukuapua’a (Hawaiian state fish), needlefish, moray eels, and even barracudas. The water temperature is typically around 75 degrees, with depths ranging from 5-25 feet depending on how far you swim out.
